Meiyappan Nagappan

Meiyappan (Mei) Nagappan is an Associate Professor and the current Ross and Muriel Cheriton Faculty Fellow in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, where he co-directs the Software Analytics Group (SWAG). His research is centered around the use of large-scale Software Engineering (SE) data to address the concerns of the various stakeholders (e.g., developers, operators, and managers).

He received a Ph.D. in computer science from North Carolina State University. Dr. Nagappan has published more than 50 blind peer-reviewed journal and conference papers including in top SE venues such as IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering (TSE), the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE), the ACM Conference on Foundations of Software Engineering (FSE), Empirical Software Engineering (EMSE), the Journal of Systems and Software (JSS), the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Mining Software Repositories (MSR), the IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance and Evolution (ICSME), and IEEE Software; he has an H-Index of 32 and almost 3000 citations since 2015 according to Google Scholar. He received an ACM Distinguished Paper Award (2015), a Best Paper Award (2012), and the Early Career Achievement Award (2018) at the ACM/IEEE International Conference on Mining Software Repositories (MSR). Dr. Nagappan is currently an associate editor for three of the top journals in software engineering: TSE, EMSE, JSS, and the PC Co-Chair of MSR 2021, QRS 2020, and PROMISE 2020. He was the inaugural editor of the IEEE Software Blog, where more than 100 posts were curated with over 200,000 views in aggregate.
