The School of Computing at Queen’s University invites applications for a teaching- and education-focused, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with specialization in Computational Intelligence and applications in Software Engineering and/or Cybersecurity. The preferred start date for the appointment is January 1, 2026.
This is a teaching-focused appointment with a primary focus on delivering exceptional undergraduate and graduate education. The normal teaching load is five courses per year (approximately 70% of the overall workload), with the remaining time devoted to research/scholarship and service.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent degree completed at the start date of the appointment. The successful candidate will provide evidence of:
Scholarly work and/or teaching experience applying Artificial Intelligence in Software Engineering and/or Cybersecurity;
Strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;
An ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the School’s programs.
Candidates must also provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, student-centered environment and be prepared to contribute to service at the department, Faculty, University, and/or community levels. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The main criteria for selection are:
· Commitment to academic and teaching excellence, including experience in curriculum development.
· Proven capacity for research in areas of Computational Intelligence, including (but not limited to) generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and evolutionary computation.
· Demonstrated expertise in applying AI methods to Software Engineering and/or Cybersecurity in either teaching or research contexts.
The successful candidate will:
· Teach the equivalent of five courses per academic year (approximately 70% of workload) across undergraduate and graduate programs;
· Demonstrate excellence in teaching and contribute to curriculum development in areas related to Computational Intelligence, Software Engineering, and/or Cybersecurity;
· Maintain a program of research or scholarship, with potential for peer-reviewed publications and external research funding;
· Work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-focused environment;
· Contribute to the academic and pedagogical excellence of the School of Computing;
· Provide effective service to the School, Faculty of Arts and Science, University, and broader community.
