The CS-Can|Info-Can Distinguished Service Award is presented to Carey Williamson for his outstanding leadership in CS-Can|Info-Can during the course of his career.
Carey was involved with CACS/AIC (the precursor to CS-Can|Info-Can) for 6 years, with highlights including roles on the Executive, hosting the AGM in 2015, and one year on the CRA Board to ensure that issues of concern to Canadian computer science researchers were included on the CRA agenda. He was part of the transition team for the creation of CS-Can|Info-Can, and served for one year on the interim Board of Directors before his most recent three-year term on the inaugural elected Board. His recent roles have included student liaison activities, conference sponsorship program, co-chair of the Awards Committee, and AGM planning. Throughout the decade that Carey spent working on CS-Can|Info-Can activities, there were significant changes and growth in the organization.
Carey is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary, where he is a member of the Networks Research Group. His research focuses on computer networks and computer systems performance evaluation. Carey was chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary for six years from 2011-2016. He has served on numerous conference technical program committees and as general chair or co-chair for several major conferences, including ACM SOSP 2019, IEEE/ACM IWQoS 2018, IEEE MASCOTS 2017, ACM IMC 2014, WWW 2007, and ACM SIGMETRICS 2005. He was also a member of NSERC Advisory Committee on University-Industry Grants, and has twice served on the SPEC Kavailya Dixit Distinguished Dissertation Award Committee.
