Canadian Slice of the 2024 CRA Taulbee Survey Released

CS-CAN | Info-CAN has released the Canadian Slice of the 2024 CRA Taulbee Survey, marking the third year of focused efforts to strengthen Canadian participation in this important North American study.

The CRA Taulbee Survey, conducted by the Computing Research Association, is the leading annual survey of PhD-granting departments in computer science, computer engineering, and informatics across North America. It collects data on degree production, enrolment, faculty demographics, and academic pipelines.

Canadian Participation

For the 2024 survey cycle covering July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024:

  • 36 Canadian PhD-granting departments were invited to participate
  • 11 departments responded
  • This represents a 31 percent response rate

For comparison, the response rate among invited U.S. computer science departments was 61 percent.

About the Canadian Slice

The Canadian Slice report supplements the main 2024 Taulbee Survey by incorporating additional data specific to Canadian institutions. This includes:

  • PhD pipeline information
  • Demographic data about faculty and students
  • PhDs awarded by specialty area at Canadian institutions

Where appropriate, the report also includes summaries of U.S. responses to allow comparison with Canadian data.

By publishing this Canadian-focused analysis, CS-CAN | Info-CAN aims to improve visibility into national trends and encourage broader participation from Canadian departments in future survey cycles.
