The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo invites applications for one position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream for a three-year probationary term, with the option to apply for a second probationary term and then permanence in accordance with University of Waterloo Policy 76 – Faculty Appointments. Experience and expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning are highly preferred. Typically, the teaching load consists of six one-term courses per year, along with service activities that support the School, the Faculty, the University and/or the profession, commensurate with faculty members in the School.

Candidates must hold a PhD in computer science or a related field, either awarded or anticipated, to be considered for the position. The successful candidate will provide clear evidence of teaching effectiveness or demonstrate strong potential for teaching excellence, along with the capability to provide academic and teaching leadership. Additionally, the candidate should be able to develop and teach a variety of both traditional and online courses.

Salary will be commensurate with experience; the salary range is $110,000 to $150,000 and negotiations beyond this range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. The expected start date for this position is March 1, 2027, though the actual start date is flexible.
