Three-year Limited-Term Assistant Teaching Professor Position

We invite applications from talented educators for a three-year limited-term Assistant Teaching Professor position in Computer Science commencing September 1, 2026. The successful candidate will primarily support the Master of Applied Data Science (MADS) program, offered jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The position typically involves teaching six courses over three terms with a flexible assignment, such as three courses in the fall term, two courses in the spring term, and one course in the summer term. A PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is required.

Candidates should be comfortable developing and teaching the core MADS courses offered by the Computer Science Department (CSC 501: Algorithms and Data Models; CSC 502: Systems for Massive Datasets; and CSC 503: Data Mining), as well as applicable electives and a variety of core computer science courses. Alternatively, responsibilities may include the development and delivery of assessment of students’ prior learning in support of the MADS program.

Qualifications: Candidates must be experienced in teaching at the postsecondary level, must have experience in Data Analysis, and must hold a PhD in Computer Science or a closely related field.

The candidate’s qualifications, experience, and overall market demand will determine the final salary offer. The salary range for this position is $104,000 – $130,000.

The Department of Computer Science is situated within the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science. At the undergraduate level, we offer BSc Major, Honours, and minor degrees in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Software Engineering program (jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science (jointly with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics). Interdisciplinary programs (with Geography, Health Information Science, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Psychology, and Visual Arts) are offered by the Faculties of Fine Arts, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences, and by the School of Health Information Science. At the graduate level, we offer MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science, and a one-year course-based Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science (MADS) (jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering).

There are currently 40 faculty members, including three Canada Research Chairs, with 11 members having joined the Department in the past five years, creating a dynamic environment with opportunities for growth and development. Candidates are expected to provide evidence of the following:

·        Excellence in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level

·        A commitment to pedagogical inquiry and teaching innovation

·        Engagement in teaching-related scholarly activities

·        Leadership potential in advancing undergraduate or graduate education

·        A strong background in coding and mathematics (such as linear algebra and probability theory)

The teaching dossier must include the following information:

·        Teaching statement

·        Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) statement

·        Syllabi of courses taught

·        Samples of course material

·        Evidence of innovative teaching practices and teaching effectiveness

Evidence of participation in instructional development (e.g., presentations, publications, or participation in workshops/conferences related to teaching) will be considered an asset.
