Quantum Horizons Alberta (QHA) was established in 2023 as an Alberta-wide initiative to expand foundational knowledge of quantum science, pursue transformational research into the potential of quantum mechanics, and enhance Alberta’s stature as a globally recognized centre for quantum research and innovation. QHA is a $25-million centre of excellence built through a partnership of the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, and the University of Lethbridge.
The University of Calgary is seeking an established research leader for the position of Director, Quantum Horizons Alberta – Calgary and Canada Research Chair Tier 1. The Director will provide strategic leadership and guide QHA-Calgary to new frontiers in foundational quantum science. This role includes leading research direction, coordinating with partner institutions, advancing collaboration, and promoting a culture of excellence and inclusion while maintaining an internationally recognized research program.
Qualifications :
Ph.D. (or equivalent)
Qualifications commensurate with appointment with tenure at the rank of Professor (or equivalent seniority in government/private sector)
Experience leading an innovative externally funded research program in foundational theoretical or experimental quantum science
Proven record supervising graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
Experience teaching quantum science at undergraduate and graduate levels
Demonstrated success securing research funding and building collaborations
Strong communication skills to articulate the vision and achievements of QHA globally
Appointment Details:
Director appointment is for a five-year term, with possibility of renewal
Appointed as Full Professor (with Tenure)
Nominated for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair, with negotiable teaching, research, and service duties
