Duties

  • We seek to hire an individual to join the Computer Science department who will continue our tradition of high-quality teaching at the undergraduate level and contribute to the evolution of Computer Science programs at VIU.
  • The teaching responsibilities of successful candidates will include foundational and specialized undergraduate courses in Computer Science, inclusive of labs.
  • Areas of teaching that complement the current expertise are: Computer Architecture and Organization; Digital Design and Logic; Networks and Systems; Graphics and Game Design; Object-Oriented Design; Web and Mobile Programming.
  • Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service.
  • Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service.
  • Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
  • PhD in Computer Science from an appropriately accredited institution, with expertise in the subject(s) to be taught.Recent post-secondary teaching experience related to a selection of more than one of following areas: Computer Architecture and Organization; Digital Design and Logic; Networks and Systems; Graphics and Game Design; Object-Oriented Design; Web and Mobile Programming.
  • Active ongoing participation in professional development activities.A commitment to, and understanding of the importance of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and workplace.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and commitment to a team-based working culture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An established record of successful supervision of undergraduate research.
  • Experience teaching in small classes in an inclusive institutional environment.
