The Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the area of Information System Design (ISD). The expected start date is July 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter.

We seek individuals who have expertise in one or more of the following areas: requirements engineering, process management and innovation, modelling, systems analysis and design, systems and architectures. Expertise in critical perspectives such as sociotechnical systems will be an asset. We seek enthusiastic individuals with the ability and ambition to advance our Faculty’s rigorous, highly-ranked Master of Information program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the Faculty of Information, primarily in the information Systems Design (ISD) Master of Information concentration and Bachelor of Information.

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in computing science, information science, information systems, or a related field at the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and reinforce our existing strengths.

The successful candidate must have previous experience teaching in a degree granting program at the graduate or undergraduate level, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures, strong endorsements from referees, and excellent communication and expository skills.  Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent and innovative pedagogical practices and an engagement in teaching-related scholarly activities, demonstrated interest in scholarly aspects of teaching and the ability to incorporate current research into our graduate courses . Publications in pedagogical approaches related to design would be an asset.

Faculty are expected to combine their expertise in the discipline with best practices in teaching to create rich learning environments that embrace diversity, promote equity, and integrate cutting-edge teaching approaches in a manner that challenges students to develop skills and ethics to be leading citizens. The successful candidate will also be expected to perform standard professional and administrative activities typical of an academic unit, and to collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through a mix of teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, workshops, panels and events organized, peer reviewed pedagogy-focused publications, other pedagogical or tutorial materials and activities (e.g., multimedia assets), evidence of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), strong letters of reference from referees of high standing, as well as the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. The dossier must include a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi, course materials, and teaching evaluations.
