The CS-CAN | INFO-CAN 1st Annual Conference of the Canadian Association for Computing Education (CACE 2027) is a venue for researchers and educators to share scholarship related to developing, implementing, or evaluating computing programs, pedagogy, curricula, and courses. CACE 2027 will be held in person in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. We invite submissions relevant to computing education on topics including but not limited to: broadening participation; computing education research; curricula and programs; and improved and scalable pedagogies. Once papers are accepted and finalized for publication, the official publication date is the date the proceedings are made available. This date may be up to two weeks prior to the first day of the conference. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work.<\/em><\/p>

We invite full paper, poster, and Birds of a Feather submissions to CACE 2027. At least one author of an accepted submission must register for and attend the conference. Authors are expected to present in person. A small number of remote presentations may be possible from authors unable to attend in person for structural reasons. As a Canadian conference, priority for scarce remote presentation opportunities may be given to authors from Canadian institutions, particularly from remote regions of Canada.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Papers are accepted to the Computing Education Research (CER) and the Computing Education Practice (CEP) tracks. Authors are responsible for submitting their work to the appropriate track; papers will be reviewed according to the track they are submitted to.<\/p>

High-quality reviewing of papers with a breadth of approaches and theoretical grounding is both challenging and essential. Authors in either paper track are expected to contribute back to the community via reviews, and in some cases agreeing to review may be a requirement for having a submission reviewed.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

CER papers report research on the teaching and learning of computing with the goal of advancing knowledge in the field. Papers should meet rigorous research standards, clearly describing their theoretical or analytical frameworks, research questions, context, methods, results, and limitations. Research papers may discuss empirical studies, theory in computing education, development of methodologies or research instruments, or systematic reviews. This track may include replication studies and papers reporting null or negative results. Submissions will be reviewed based on the clarity and significance of the research question(s) or theoretical contribution, alignment with prior literature and theory, methodological soundness and transparency, overall contribution, and written expression. All methodological approaches are welcome, including quantitative and qualitative methods. Accepted CER papers will be assigned to in-person paper sessions for presentation; the length of the presentations will be determined by the program chairs.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

CEP papers present the development and deployment of computing education approaches, tools, curricula, or programs. Their primary purpose is to share detailed accounts of practice that others can learn from and potentially adopt. CEP papers must describe the context of the work, include any formative evaluation data collected, and provide thoughtful reflection on what worked, what did not, and why. Contributions must be grounded in prior literature and clearly articulate the novelty of the approach, tool, curriculum, or program. Unlike Computing Education Research (CER) papers, CEP papers emphasize supporting adoption by other practitioners rather than generalizability, transferability, or threats to validity; they do not include research questions or report results of a research study. Submissions will be reviewed based on relevance to the CACE community, grounding in prior literature, novelty, clarity, depth of reflection, impact, and written expression. This track welcomes experience reports, teaching techniques, pedagogical tools, and curriculum or program design papers, all of which should provide sufficient detail to enable adoption by others. Posters present ideas or works in progress that would enable and benefit from interactive discussions and feedback. BoFs provide an opportunity for informal discussions between colleagues on a topic of significance and relevance to the community. Discussions are organized and facilitated by leaders with appropriate background and expertise. There will be a nominal fee per submission for cost recovery.
