The successful candidate will primarily support the Master of Applied Data Science (MADS) program, offered jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The position typically involves teaching six courses over three terms with a flexible assignment, such as three courses in the fall term, two courses in the spring term, and one course in the summer term. A PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is required.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates should be comfortable developing and teaching the core MADS courses offered by the Computer Science Department (CSC 501: Algorithms and Data Models; CSC 502: Systems for Massive Datasets; and CSC 503: Data Mining), as well as applicable electives and a variety of core computer science courses. At the undergraduate level, we offer BSc Major, Honours, and minor degrees in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Software Engineering program (jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science (jointly with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics). Interdisciplinary programs (with Geography, Health Information Science, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Psychology, and Visual Arts) are offered by the Faculties of Fine Arts, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences, and by the School of Health Information Science. At the graduate level, we offer MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science, and a one-year course-based Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science (MADS) (jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering).<\/p>\n<p>There are currently 40 faculty members, including three Canada Research Chairs, with 11 members having joined the Department in the past five years, creating a dynamic environment with opportunities for growth and development. In the latest Leiden ranking, UVic placed top five in Canada for its proportionate research impact in all sciences, and first in mathematics and computer science.
