Candidates who are near completion of their program will also be considered. \u00a0Applicants should have research areas of interest that include algorithms, data structures, and\/or complexity theory. Applicants working in all areas of theoretical computer science are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<p>Research expectations: The candidate must have strong interests in supporting the Department of Computer Science&#8217;s research initiatives and training programs. The candidate is expected to contribute to the University of Calgary&#8217;s Ahead of Tomorrow strategic plan to promote transdisciplinary scholarship and innovation and empower our students and communities to tackle society&#8217;s big problems.<\/p>\n<p>Teaching expectations: The successful candidate will play an important role in teaching and research supervision of undergraduate and graduate students. \u00a0Evidence of (or potential for) excellence and growth in these areas is required. The successful candidate must possess the interest and ability to teach a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses in computer science and especially topics related to\u00a0Theoretical Foundations of Computer Science, in order to support teaching in our undergraduate and graduate programs. \u00a0We offer both in-person and virtual sections of many of our undergraduate courses. \u00a0Teaching assignments of faculty members is a collaborative process where we aim to balance the needs of individual faculty members and the needs of students.<\/p>\n<p>Service Expectations: Finally, the candidate should provide evidence of collegiality within their organization and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). They will be expected to fully engage in departmental and university service at the University of Calgary and work effectively with people from diverse communities and cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Successful applicants will become faculty members in the Department of Computer Science. The Department offers a variety of programs:<\/p>\n<p>BSc in Computer Science<br \/>\nBSc in Data Science<br \/>\nMSc and PhD in Computer Science<br \/>\nMSc and PhD in Computational Media Design<br \/>\nProfessional certificates and Master in Data Science and Analytics<br \/>\nProfessional certificates and Master in Information Security and Privacy.<br \/>\nWe are also developing an on-line pathway for our BSc in Computer Science. Successful applicants will primarily contribute to the\u00a0theoretical foundations\u00a0components of the Department&#8217;s programs, but will also have the opportunity to contribute to other components and other programs offered by the Department and Faculty.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Computer Science is in the Faculty of Science. The Department and Faculty are committed to supporting interdisciplinary research and teaching and we offer and support opportunities to improve your research and your teaching practice by working with people in other disciplines.
