The University of Guelph invites applications for nomination to the prestigious\u00a0Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC)\u00a0in\u00a0Green Artificial Intelligence (AI), which focuses on either developing energy-efficient, sustainable AI models or infrastructures, or applying AI methods to address environmental, agricultural, and societal challenges. This opportunity will enable a world-class researcher to establish and lead an ambitious, multidisciplinary research program at the intersection of\u00a0AI, sustainability, and computational science, positioning Canada at the forefront of ethical and environmentally responsible AI innovation.<\/p>\n

About the CERC Program<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Canada Excellence Research Chairs Program\u00a0is one of the most significant federal research funding initiatives, designed to recruit leading researchers from around the world. It offers universities award values of either $8 million or $4 million over eight years to support world\u2011renowned researchers and their teams to establish ambitious research programs at Canadian universities with the goal to support groundbreaking research programs, build critical mass in strategic science and technology areas, and deliver lasting social and economic benefits for Canadians. The CERC in Green AI has a value of $4 million over 8 years.<\/p>\n
Research Focus: Green AI<\/p>\n
The successful candidate will develop a world-leading research program in\u00a0Green AI, with an emphasis on at least one of the following:<\/p>\n
\u2022 \u00a0 \u00a0Designing AI models, algorithms, and infrastructures that are\u00a0energy-efficient and sustainable.
\n\u2022 \u00a0 \u00a0Advancing\u00a0low-carbon machine learning\u00a0methodologies and scalable computational frameworks.
\n\u2022 \u00a0 \u00a0Developing novel\u00a0mathematical and statistical models\u00a0for efficient AI or for energy-efficient computing infrastructure.
