Le d\u00e9partement dispose d'un groupe de th\u00e9orie fort et actif, dont les membres effectuent des recherches en SCT et dans des domaines connexes, notamment les algorithmes, la complexit\u00e9, la cryptographie et la logique. Les candidats qualifi\u00e9s doivent \u00eatre titulaires d'un doctorat en informatique ou dans un domaine \u00e9quivalent, ou \u00eatre \u00e0 moins d'un an de l'obtention de leur doctorat, et avoir fait la preuve de leurs r\u00e9alisations en mati\u00e8re de recherche, y compris des publications dans les meilleurs sites internationaux de th\u00e9orie (comparables \u00e0 FOCS et STOC), ainsi qu'un plan clair pour le d\u00e9veloppement d'un programme de recherche exceptionnel. Major, Honours and minor degrees in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Software Engineering program, jointly offered with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. It offers several joint programs combining Computer Science with Geography, Health Information Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Music, Physics, Psychology, Statistics and Visual Arts. The department offers Masters and Doctoral programs and there are currently\u00a0125 graduate students. It offers a one-year course-based Master of Engineering in Applied Data Science, jointly with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. There are currently 39 faculty members, including three Canada Research Chairs,\u00a0with 11 members having joined the Department in the past five years, creating a dynamic environment with opportunities for growth and development. In the latest Leiden ranking, UVic ranked fifth in Canada for research impact across all sciences, and sixth for mathematics and computer science.
