The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Mount Allison University invites applications for a full-time 2-year term position to teach Computer Science. Candidates should have an MSc or PhD in Computer Science and have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching.

The successful candidate will teach four on-campus undergraduate courses in computer science in 2022-2023: Introduction to Computer Science (COMP 1631) and Data Structures I (COMP 2611) in the fall; Introduction to Computer Science (COMP 1631) and an upper-year COMP course related to the successful applicant’s interests and background in the winter. COMP 1631 is an introductory computer science course for which no previous computer science experience is expected. COMP 1631 and COMP 2611 both make extensive use of active learning models (flipped classrooms, ungrading, etc.) and experience with such pedagogical tools is considered an asset. Calendar descriptions for these courses can be found at: https://www.mta.ca/academic_calendar/22-23/ComputerScience.html.

The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor and will commence on August 1, 2022, subject to budgetary approval.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching experience and interests, and letters from three referees with at least one addressing teaching skills. In their cover letter, applicants should directly comment on their preparedness to teach lower-year CS courses, as well as any openness to or experience with active learning models and ethics, diversity and inclusion curricula in a CS context. We are moving towards ethics across the curriculum and presently this includes COMP 1631 and COMP 2611.

Applications are only being accepted through MATHJOBS.ORG: https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/list/20044

Applications will be accepted until Friday, June 10, 2022.

Uploaded cover letters should be addressed to Dr. M. Messinger, Chair of the Search Committee, Dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science, Mount Allison University.
