This Means That: A Research Parable
James R. Cordy
Queen’s University School of Computing
Conducting research for a living can be rife with criticism, rejection and frustration. However, as Henry Ford said, “failure is only the opportunity to more intelligently begin again”.
In this talk on the occasion of my lifetime achievement award, rather than review the research itself, I’ve decided to tell the story of how that research came to be, and how a sequence of early criticisms and rejections led to the opportunities that shaped my career.
This talk should be of particular interest to students and early researchers just beginning their career, but I hope it will be entertaining for everyone.
