We are inviting the Canadian student and postdoc community and beyond to submit proposals for 2 minute lightning-pitches that will be held at the 1st annual CS-Can Student Symposium that will be running in conjunction with the upcoming CS-Can | Info-Can 2019 Annual Meeting on June 2nd-4th 2019, at McGill University Montreal, QC. We welcome and encourage participation from everyone: students, postdocs, faculty, industry and beyond.

The goal for these pitches is to provide a 2 minute introduction to a topic you are passionate about. We strongly encourage everyone attending the CS-Can |Info-Can 2019 Annual Meeting to give a 2 minute pitch to introduce themselves, as this will allow other attendees the opportunity to identify who shares common interests. If you are presenting a poster or running a workshop, this will also be an opportunity for you to advertise your upcoming presentation and you can still apply to give another lightning pitch presentation about a second or third topic of interest.

Submission Instructions
You will have the option to submit a small number of slides as a pdf to accompany your presentation. We will be compiling everyone’s slides into a single deck so that the presentations run smoothly and without delays. There is no limit to the number of slides you submit; however, please keep in mind that you must be able to complete your full pitch in 2 minutes or less, as we will not be providing a grace period for pitches beyond 2 minutes. If you are not done at 2 minutes, you will be asked to cut your presentation short so that we can stay on schedule. If you opt out of sending us slides, we will create a simple slide with your name, affiliation and title on it.

If you are accepted to present a poster or lead a workshop, you will automatically be added to the list of lightning-pitch presenters; there is no need to submit an additional lightning pitch presentation application. However, if you wish, you may provide slides for the lightning-pitch accompanying your workshop or poster by submitting an additional lightning-pitch presentation. You may also make a second (or third) lightning-pitch submission if you desire to give an additional lightning pitch on a topic other than your poster or workshop.

You will be required to submit:

  1. Your name and contact information.
  2. The title of your pitch.
  3. 2-3 sentences describing your pitch. Please submit this in the “abstract” field on the submission page. Please note that these will be used only for the purposes of reviewing. Only your name and title will be released in our program.
  4. a small number of slides as a PDF (optional). If you are including slides, please attach them in the “paper” submission field.
