In accordance with the University of Victoria’s Equity Plan, and pursuant with Section 42 of the BC Human Rights code, the Department of Computer Science at the University of Victoria is seeking to hire a faculty member with preference for female candidates at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates with research in AI, Systems, Theory, or Interdisciplinary Areas, as broadly defined by CSRankings (csrankings.org), are encouraged to apply.

The Department of Computer Science is fast growing and has a strong record of excellence in research and teaching at the undergraduate, masters, and PhD level.

Located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, the City of Victoria is a wonderful place to live. It has a vibrant tech sector with over 900 companies, an international airport with direct connections to Seattle, San Francisco, and major Canadian cities, as well as direct seaplane access between downtown Victoria and the downtowns of Vancouver and Seattle.

A Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field is required. Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong record of excellence in research and the potential to develop and maintain an internationally recognized research program. They are expected to effectively supervise graduate students, teach computer science courses, obtain external funding, and actively participate in departmental activities. The potential of an applicant’s research program to complement and enrich existing research strengths of the department will be an important factor in the selection.

Applicants should submit a CV, a research statement, a teaching statement, up to three selected relevant publications, and a list of three references. The research statement should summarize research achievements and propose future research.
