Assistant Teaching Professor in Sustainable Design Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering is seeking outstanding candidates for an Assistant Teaching Professor position in Sustainable Design Engineering. The successful candidate will have an initial three-year appointment starting July 1, 2019 and will be eligible for a continuing appointment. The appointee will contribute to design education across the faculty and is expected to become a faculty member in the department that is best aligned with their academic background and experience. The Faculty of Engineering includes the departments of Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, as well as the interdepartmental Software and Biomedical Engineering programs.
The ideal candidate will have at least five years industrial or academic experience in engineering design. Experience in a technology area of interest to the faculty, for example power systems, smart grids, building science, software development, infrastructure, or biomedical engineering would be an asset; multi-disciplinary experience is also desirable. The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level, including lecture courses and first and upper year engineering design courses, to engage in scholarship related to engineering or computer science education, to participate actively in outreach and recruitment activities and to participate in the academic affairs of the university. The minimum qualification is a Masters degree. Candidates must be registered as a professional engineer in BC or be eligible for and committed to registration. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in an engineering discipline, together with excellent verbal and written communication, and experience working in collaboration with colleagues with engineering and non-engineering backgrounds.
