The Government of Canada launched a pilot program to increase equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and help drive deeper cultural change within the research community. Called Dimensions: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Canada, the program aims to improve access to the largest pool of qualified potential participants, enhance the integrity of a program’s application and selection processes, strengthen research outputs and increase the overall excellence of research. The program addresses obstacles faced by, but not limited to, women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minority/racialized groups, and members of LGBTQ2+ communities. It provides public recognition for institutions committed to achieving increased EDI.
Fifteen post-secondary institutions will receive part of $5.3 million worth of grant money from the federal government to make academic research more inclusive.
A charter outlining the principles will be available to all research disciplines and fields at post-secondary institutions. A Letter of Intent call to join the first cohort of institutions seeking a Dimensions award in this pilot will open on June 3rd, 2019.
